Neal Medlyn

The Neal Medlyn Experience Live!

The Neal Medlyn Experience Live! is a faithful re-creaton of Beyonce’s 2007 hit concert DVD, The Beyonce Experience Live!, replete with back-up dancers, costume changes, box fans, birthday cake, and special guest appearances. Medlyn’s Experience was a sold out hit at the New Museum of Contemporary Art this past April (incidentally, Medlyn’s tribute fell on Beyonce’s wedding day!). On a recent segment on NPR’s All Things Considered, it was said, “You have not really heard [Beyonce’s] lyrics until you’ve watched an impossibly skinny white man from Texas hurl them out with near Messianic intensity.” Medlyn is his own kind of “bootilicious” diva who struts and seduces the crowd with his wonky ways, working his newfound fans into a ridiculous frenzy.

Neal Medlyn is the Paris Hilton of performance art. He has performed at Joe’s Pub, PS122, Fez, Ars Nova, the Knitting Factory, Galapagos Art Space and the Philly Fringe. He starred opposite Karen Finley in George and Martha, and his dance moves have been featured in the work of choreographers Adrienne Truscott and David Neumann. Kenny Mellman brought Medlyn to Portland for TBA:05 where he performed a soft rock opera comprised of Lionel Richie’s greatest hits. Medlyn and Mellman returned to the Time-Based Art Festival in 2006 for their show Kenny Mellman + Neal Medlyn = R. Kelly.

Medlyn deals in theatrical miracles. He transforms the stuff of our celebrity-obsessed, media-saturated world into impossibly beautiful, absurdist happenings...He’s amazing. All Things Considered, NPR
