CRISPIN SPAETH DANCE GROUP

Dark Room

TBA pass holder reservations required. Call TBA Central 503.224.PICA.

Performed in a lightless room for a small audience equipped with night vision apparatus, Dark Room turns military technology into an intimate tool, revealing a world completely unavailable to the naked eye. Flanked by a small audience, five dancers navigate a tight, pitch-black arena through touch and sound, moving with passionate, risk-filled innocence and uncanny skill. Casting off the normal trappings of theatre, the dance remains absolutely central, an up-close world of trust, fear, sex, and the blind pursuit of human connection.

Since its first performances in 1993, Crispin Spaeth Dance Group has achieved recognition in the Pacific Northwest as an innovative contemporary dance ensemble. CSDG creates a new major work every two years in close collaboration with a variety of multidisciplinary artists and organizations, and more frequent shorter works performed in cabarets, open rehearsals, and other informal venues. CSDG has been presented by Western Bridge, Consolidated Works, On the Boards, Bumbershoot, Velocity Dance Center, Seattle’s Center on Contemporary Art, Oberlin College, Vancouver, B.C.’s Dancing on the Edge Festival, the International Theater Festival in Manta, Ecuador, and the Spondylus Festival in Quito, Ecuador, among many others.

Dark Room was originally commissioned by Western Bridge in Seattle.
