MUSIC POPULATION ORCHESTRA

MPP

Following John King’s Extreme Guitar Orchestra performance in Pioneer Square, join us for a people’s parade over the Hawthorne Bridge to a special FREE opening night event at The Works.

Music Population Project is an effort to bring chamber music back to the people, invoking times when performances were public spectacles, when operas were performed in front of enthusiastic audiences, when uprisings followed premieres and classical music was pop music. The MPP germinated in Portland, Oregon under the direction of Brede Rørstad, working closely with the Music Population Orchestra, a chamber music ensemble created to fulfill the mission of The MPP. Operating more like a band than a traditional orchestra, the ensemble performs with and without electronics in configurations varying between four and twenty musicians in bars, clubs, galleries, and more traditional concert venues. Looking back to his native Norway for inspiration, Rørstad combines classical and electronic influences in what he deems klatronic compositions for chamber ensembles, commercials and short films. Rørstad is currently working on bringing the MPP to Europe and establishing an Oslo-based Music Population Orchestra.
