Larry Krone

In Concert

Larry Krone performs original songs and country music standards, infusing them with all the love and devotion one would expect from a down-home, defiantly wholesome, cross-dressing cowboy entertainer. Gussied up in sequined and lamé costumes of his own design, Krone’s urban cowboy persona is equally at home singing songs about passion or loss, girlfriends or boyfriends, rainbows or heartbreaks sopped up with bottles of Jack Daniels. Humorous, creative, and touchingly vulnerable, this rugged, lovelorn singer presents a unique blend of imaginative spectacle and tender autobiography.

Larry Krone grew up in St. Louis and now resides in the East Village. He has presented his work at performance venues which include Joe’s Pub, La MaMa, Dixon Place, and in art world venues which include the Whitney Museum of Contemporary Art, New Museum of Contemporary Art, Exit Art, the Swiss Institute in New York, the St. Louis Forum for Contemporary Art, and the Gramercy Art Fair, often in association with exhibitions of his meticulously crafted art objects, costumes and installations. He was recently honored with a ten-year retrospective, Artist/Entertainer, at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis.

“Mr. Krone himself is something of a collage, as an artist, as a performer and as a personality projected through his art. He’s the Marlboro Man working as a seamstress; he’s Willie Nelson singing Tammy Wynette; he’s a folk art version of a stand-up comic.” The New York Times
