ANTHONY HUDSON (Grand Ronde) is a multidisciplinary artist, writer, performer, and filmmaker. Anthony lives in Portland, OR among lush greenery, sprawling gentrification, and a not-mutually-exclusive fear of bridges and earthquakes. Anthony is perhaps best known as Portland’s premier drag clown CARLA ROSSI, an immortal trickster whose attempts at realness almost always result in fantastic failure.

Anthony & Carla have been featured at Seattle PrideFest, the Risk/Reward Festival, Pepper Pepper’s Critical Mascara for TBA (PICA), the Cascade AIDS Project Art Auction, and Conduit Dance’s DANCE+ Festival, along with hosting a veritable buffet of monthly nightlife events where s/he has performed alongside drag legends like Coco Peru, Christeene, Lady Bunny, Peaches Christ, and many more, since 2010.

Anthony & Carla host and program their film series QUEER HORROR – the only ongoing, exclusively LGBTQ horror screening series in the country – bimonthly at Portland’s historic Hollywood Theatre, where Anthony also serves as its Community Programmer.

In 2016 Anthony & Carla premiered their second evening-length solo show LOOKING FOR TIGER LILY with support from the Regional Arts & Culture Council. Asking what it means for a mixed-race millennial to experience their heritage via white pop culture like “Peter Pan,” “Pocahontas,” and pop singles, LOOKING FOR TIGER LILY (Solo) was featured on OPB and individually profiled by the Portland Mercury, Portland Monthly, Willamette Week, the Portland Tribune, and Oregon ArtsWatch, and made its New England premiere in April 2018 at the Hopkins Center for the Arts at Dartmouth College, while also touring internationally to the Talking Stick Festival in Vancouver, BC, and to the Yirramboi Festival in Melbourne, Australia in May 2019.

In 2018, Anthony was announced as one of the Native Arts and Cultures Foundation’s National Artist Fellows in Artistic Innovation, and named among the inaugural cohort of the Western Arts Alliance’s Native Launchpad program to advance Indigenous performance. In 2019, Anthony was awarded an Individual Artist Fellowship in performing arts from the Oregon Arts Commission.

Anthony’s third RACC-funded show (and Carla’s first evening-length show since 2014), CLOWN DOWN: FAILED TO MOUNT, a farce starring Carla and too many puppets, will premiere November 14 – 17, 2019 at Pacific Northwest College of Art, from which Anthony graduated in 2013.

Anthony’s first professionally-produced theatrical play, a multi-actor version of LOOKING FOR TIGER LILY, will make its world premiere closing out Artists Repertory Theatre’s 2019/2020 season in May 2020, with generous support from a 2018 Creative Heights award from the Oregon Community Foundation. LOOKING FOR TIGER LILY (The Play) was commissioned by Artists Rep after developing through its Table|Room|Stage program.

Anthony can be heard regularly on the GAYLORDS OF DARKNESS horror podcast with Stacie Ponder, on FEMMESPLAINING with Honey LeFleur, and on the radio show QUEENS OF HOLLYWOOD with Elizabeth Teets.

Anthony is represented by Andre Bouchard at Walrus Arts Management.
