Artist Brittany Marie Chavez investigates desire and power relations while occupying zones of indistinction between art and pornography. In working with video, installation, and performance, she activates conversations about moving and looking, as well as the structures that can be complicated when doing so. She is interested in the fragmented self as creating performative possibilities and alternative explorations for being in the world.
Since graduating with her BA in psychology, she has further developed her art practice, as well as worked as a pole fitness instructor, stripper and cam girl over the past six years. Chavez currently lives in New Mexico where she is attending graduate school and teaching photography at New Mexico State University. As an MFA candidate in Studio Art, she is developing her thesis and will graduate this fall. Her thesis is concerned with the limits and exhaustion that constant motion and remediation produce.
