Katherine Profeta’s longest-term credits are as a dramaturg with choreographer and visual artist Ralph Lemon (1997-present) and as a founding member, choreographer and occasional performer with Elevator Repair Service theater company (1991-present). She has also done dramaturgical work in dance, theater and points in-between with Julie Taymor, Karin Coonrod, Annie Dorsen, David Thomson, Alexandra Beller, Nora Chipaumire, and Theatre for a New Audience. She holds a Doctorate of Fine Arts from the Yale School of Drama in the department of Dramaturgy and Dramatic Criticism. Her first book, Dramaturgy in Motion, examines the labor of the dramaturg in contemporary dance and movement performance, alongside a history of her collaboration with Lemon. Her writing has also been seen in Performing Arts Journal; Theater Magazine; Movement Research Performance Journal; Theatre, Dance and Performance Training; and TCG’s The Production Notebooks. “She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Drama, Theatre and Dance at Queens College, CUNY, and currently a Visiting Associate Professor at the Yale School of Drama.”
