Marne Lucas aka CuntemporaryArtist is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist based in Harlem, New York, using photography, video and installation to present unique aesthetic or social philosophies. Central to her practice are investigations of nature, culture, and the body, working in conceptual overlaps: life’s energy, the environment, beauty, identity, intimacy and mortality. Lucas’ current social practice project ‘Bardo’ explores creativity as a form of spiritual palliative care, collaborating with hospice patients. Towards this project she is training to be a certified end-of-life doula, a role acting as liaison to the dying.

An experimental filmmaker, her recent black & white infrared videos Haute Flash (2017), Mālama ‘Āina (WIP), and previous collaborations with Jacob Pander, Incident Energy (2013), ‘The Operation’ (1995) use military imaging technology to reference surveillance culture and the fragility of human existence.
