Rosane Chamecki & Andrea Lerner (Artistic Directors/Choreographers). Andrea and Rosane’s first collaboration as choreographers dates from their graduation year, in Brazil. They both received a BA from the Pontif’ Catholic University of Paraná. Since then, they have developed an impressive body of work. “Jackie and Judy” earned their first invitation to festivals in Europe and South America, with outstanding reviews in newspapers in Venezuela, Belgium, and Holland. In ’94, Dance Theater Workshop produced their first full evening-length piece, “The Butterfly Effect”, considered by Andre Lepecki of the German magazine “International Ballettanz Actuell” as “one of the most successful pieces I saw this year.” In following years Chamecki/Lerner was produced by Performance Space 122 in New York, as well as commissioned to create a piece for the company Espacio Alterno in Venezuela. Chamecki/ Lerner’s past productions has been seen at festivals in the Netherlands, Costa Rica, Mexico, El Salvador, Venezuela and in the US, and have toured brazil extensively.
Chamecki and Lerner have received grants from The fund for US artists at international exhibitions and festivals from Arts International, Meet the Composer, Jerome Foundation, Emerging Artist Challenge Program and a fellowship from CAPES from the Department of Education of Brazil. Last year, Chamecki/Lerner was awarded with grants from Siemens/Equitel, FIESP, Electrolux and O Boticario.
Their third full evening length piece, “Antônio Caído”, co-produced by Performance Space 122 in New York, premiered at the FID-I Festival Internacional de Dança, Brazil. This year Andrea and Rosane performed an evening of duets at Imagetanz 97, in Vienna, Austria. After Portland, “Antônio Caído” will be performed the US and Lisbon, Portugal.
