Vanessa Gidden
Vanessa Gidden is a former professional basketball player, business executive, entrepreneur, and nonprofit founder whose life’s work is centered on the belief that sport has the power to transform lives far beyond the game. Over a 14-year professional basketball career, she competed throughout Europe and Africa, playing professionally in Turkey, Finland, Romania, Italy, Israel, Spain, Poland, and Angola, while proudly representing the Jamaican National Basketball Team in international competition and gained experience within the WNBA, experiences exposed her to diverse cultures, strengthened her passion for leadership, and inspired a lifelong commitment to helping athletes maximize their impact both on and off the court.
Following her playing career, Vanessa transitioned into global business leadership, where she now serves as a Lead Merchant for one of the world’s leading sports brands. She draws on her experiences as both an athlete and executive to help shape the future of basketball through innovation and global product strategy while bringing a unique perspective on leadership, resilience, and the evolving role of athletes in shaping culture, business, and communities.
Vanessa is the founder of Athlete 4 Athletes, an organization dedicated to empowering athletes throughout every stage of their journey. Through Athlete for Athletes, LLC, she consults with professional athletes on career transitions, leadership development, personal branding, strategic partnerships, and building purpose beyond competition. Through the Athlete 4 Athletes Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, she leads initiatives that connect athletes with opportunities to serve communities through mentorship, humanitarian relief, youth development, and global outreach. She is also the founder of Veez Hoops, a platform that helps to fosters the growth of young athletes.
Whether in the boardroom, on the court, or serving communities around the world, Vanessa is passionate about helping people discover that leadership is rooted in purpose, service, and the courage to create opportunities for others. She believes sport is more than competition—it is a powerful vehicle for building leaders, strengthening communities, and creating lasting change.
