Over the past year, The Stripper Project crew has travelled around the country listening, filming, recording and capturing people who work the sex industry. Even though we believe our journey isn’t done, we have collected a wide variety of voices.
Our intention for this project is: 1. People outside of the industry be able to see and experience content that is genuine and true to us And; 2. Have people in the industry begin to grasp how different this job can be depending on race, social status, education and, mental health status. We hope to create greater support to our community from the inside out.
Learn moreThe drawings, media, and sculptural works of Thomas Zummer have been shown worldwide, with recent exhibitions at the Museum van Hedendaagse Kunst, Antwerpen; Fundacio Antoni Tapies, Barcelona; Mütter Museum, Philadelphia; and the Frederieke Taylor Gallery and White Box, New York. He has written essays on Eleanor Antin, Vik Muniz, Leslie Thornton, Jim Campbell, Heleen Decuininck, and Harun Farocki, among others, and has curated exhibitions at the Wexner Center for the Arts, CinéClub/Anthology Film Archives, Thread Waxing Space, the Katonah Museum of Art, and the Palais des Beaux-arts/Brussels. He is currently working on a book on photography entitled Prosthetic Memory: On Photography’s Histories as well as a study of the early history of reference systems entitled Intercessionary Technologies: Database, Archive, Interface. He lectures on philosophy, aesthetics, and the history of technology at RISDI, the European Graduate School, and the Hogeschool Sint Lukas Brussel.
Learn moreTristen Edwards is an attorney at Metropolitan Public Defender, where she represents individuals charged with major felony crimes and works on policy issues related to promoting the use of restorative justice as an alternative to prosecution. Tristen is a Coordinating Committee Member of the Restorative Justice Coalition of Oregon and leads the coalition’s legislative advocacy efforts. She also serves on Governor Kotek’s Racial Justice Council’s Criminal Justice Reform Committee and chairs the Council’s Subcommittee on the Department of Corrections, which focuses on supporting restorative justice efforts led by incarcerated men. Tristen holds a strong commitment to diversity and is the founder and chair of the Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyer’s Association’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. Tristen has been recognized for her work amplifying the voices of marginalized people and promoting effective and compassionate responses to harm by the Oregon New Lawyers Division, the Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyer’s Association, and Oregon Women Lawyers.
Learn moreWendy Red Star was born in Billings, Montana just outside of the Crow Indian reservation where she was raised. She grew up in a multi-cultural family. Her mother is of Irish decent, her father a full blood Crow Indian and her older sister is Korean. Wendy left the Crow Indian reservation when she was eighteen to attend Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana where she studied sculpture. She then went on to earn her MFA in sculpture at UCLA. Wendy has worked as an adjunct professor of fine art at Portland State University for five and a half years. In 2012 to 2013 Wendy was the manger of Chief Plenty Coups State Park located within the Crow Indian Reservation in south-central Montana. The park preserves the log home, sacred spring, museum, and farmstead of Chief Plenty Coups and is a National Historic Landmark. Wendy is currently the Program Associate for the Native Arts & Cultures Foundation.
Wendy Red Star’s work explores the intersection between life on the Crow Indian reservation and the world outside of that environment. She thinks of herself as a Crow Indian cultural archivist speaking sincerely about the experience of being a Crow Indian in contemporary society.
