Guided by Pavol Liska, one of the most exciting directors to emerge recently in New York, Poetics sprawls throughout the theatre revealing unique geometries, rhythms, and vantage points, and unseating audience preconceptions of the theatre-going experience. With a provocative brand of stagecraft wizardry, everyday gestures as simple as sleeping, walking, listening and waiting transform into a carnivalesque ballet of everyday life. Poetics strips theatre down to its barest essentials and reinvents it as a radical exploration of chorus, community, and spectacle.

Nature Theater of Oklahoma is the brainchild of Slovak-born Pavol Liska, renowned for his original stagecraft and dramaturgy, and ingenious adaptations of classical texts. Liska has studied with Richard Foreman and Anne Bogart, and recently received his MFA in Directing from Columbia University. Kelly Copper, playwright and accomplished visual artist, has collaborated with Nature Theater of Oklahoma for the past ten years and recently created Fragment with Pavol Liska, which premiered at Classic Stage Company. The Nature Theater has produced theatre, film, and multi-media events in New York at P.S. 122, the Ontological-Hysteric Theater, Anthology Film Archives, New York Theater Workshop and Classic Stage Company.
