Namasya, Sanskrit for “reverence” or “to pay homage,” is an exploration of the common language of dance and the emotions that emanate from the body. The program features contemporary dances choreographed by Shivalingappa’s mentors Ushio Amagatsu (Sankai Juku) and the legendary Pina Bausch, with whom Shivalingappa performed and collaborated. The program also features choreography by Shivalingappa and her mother, the classical Indian dancer Savitry Nair. Shivalingappa begins with her classical Indian technique, and channels the magnetic force of each choreographer’s movements.
